HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints softball team looks to clinch a playoff berth in the final week of the season as they head to Great Falls to take on Providence in a four-game series.
"It's the same mindset we've had all year," Saints head coach
Aaron Jackson said. "We're going in and trying to win series. It's a rivalry game so our kids will be up for that. There's really no extra motivation needed for this weekend. These are our rivals up north and we're just trying to take care of business."
Carroll (16-21, 9-14 Cascade Collegiate Conference) faces Providence (7-24, 7-17) in a doubleheader on Friday and another on Saturday. The first three games of the series count toward conference standings, while the fourth game is a nonconference affair.
The Saints enter the weekend with momentum on their side. Carroll claimed two home wins against British Columbia last Friday. The final two games of the series were rained out on Saturday.
The Saints scored six runs in the wins, which harkened back to the offense the Saints displayed earlier in the month.
Carroll will look to keep that wave going.
Junior
Anna ApRoberts of Beaverton, Oregon, leads the Saints with a .352 batting average, while Ali Williams' 21 RBI are tops on the team.
Senior
Tess Eaton of San Diego, California, has emerged as the Saints' top pitching threat. Eaton leads the Saints with a 3.29 ERA and also leads the pitching staff in strikeouts at 73.
Providence enters the weekend on a six-game losing streak. The Argonauts are led by Hannah Vandomelen at the plate with a .333 batting average. Brieanna Clifford is posting the lowest ERA of UP pitchers at 4.27.
The games start at 11 a.m. on Friday.
