HELENA, Mont. -- Both Carroll College Saints golf teams saw improvement on Day Two of the Minot State Invitational played in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the Aliante Golf Course.

"We improved as a team on both sides and really just need the reps," Saints coach Ben MacIntyre said. "Good trip for our teams, getting back into the rhythm of our swings and improving our short-game feel."

The Saints women finished in fifth place.

Cailin Spencer had the low round on the day for the Saints, shooting an 81 for a two-round total of 169. She finished in a tie for eighth overall.

"Cailin led the way for our women's team and made some solid up and owns around the greens," MacIntyre said. "There were a lot of tight lies, which makes it difficult."

Caroline Hobson fired an 87, Madison Robischon fired a 95, Weslee Nehl carded a 96 and Syndee Nowlen finished with a 100 to round out the Saints' scores on Day Two.

The women as a team shaved off nine strokes from their team score on the second day.

Carroll's men finished back in the pack, but a strong round from Joseph Potkonjak showed the Saints are growing with their course-time.

Potkonjak fired a two-under 70, firing two eagles on the day. His third round of 70 was a 12-stroke improvement over this second round on Day One.

"Great individual performance by Joseph today," MacIntyre said. "He had two eagles in a four-hole stretch including holing out from 170 on a par four."

Samuel Berry and Ben Gardner each fired 82, while Stephen Santora carded an 87 and Josh Neth came in with a 96.

The men finished the final round with a team score of 322, a 21-stroke improvement of their first round of the spring season.
