Carroll softball grabs leads, loses to No. 3 SOU

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Saints softball team held leads in both games against No. 3 Southern Oregon, but ultimately fell short against the Raiders on Saturday, falling twice in a doubleheader in Caldwell, Idaho.

The Saints (5-10, 0-5 Cascade Collegiate Conference) made a big push in the first game, putting up four runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead over SOU (16-3), but the Raiders responded.

Southern scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie it and eventually send the game to extra innings.

Once in extras, however, the Raiders scored in the eighth and the Saints were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.

Amber Brewer accounted for three RBI in the first game, going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Kendall Mooney went 2-for-3 in the box in Game One.

In game two, the Raiders jumped out to a 3-1 lead, though the Saints battled back to tie it up in the sixth inning at 5-5.

The Raiders exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning to seal the game, 13-5.

Brooke Yarnall and Amber Brewer both went 2-for-3 in the second game, while Anna ApRoberts went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs.

What was originally scheduled for home games became neutral site games for the Saints. Carroll and Southern Oregon squared off in Caldwell, Idaho, on Saturday due to snow on the ground in Helena.

The Saints will play two more games against SOU on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
