BILLINGS, Mont. – The Carroll College softball team swept Northwest on Friday in Kirkland, Washington. Carroll defeated the Eagles 4-2 and 8-2 to earn their first Cascade Collegiate Conference wins of the season.
Carroll (8-11, 2-6 CCC) rallied in both games to defeat Northwest (2-14, 0-8).
Northwest jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first game, but the Saints rallied in the second inning, uncorking three runs to grab a lead they would never give up.
Tianna Sell smacked a three-run homer to give the Saints the boost they needed.
Brittany Smith added to the Saints' lead in the sixth inning, cranking a triple to center field to bring another run across plate.
Smith, Ali Williams and
Anna ApRoberts each had two hits for the Saints.
Williams (5-2) also received the win on the mound, throwing seven innings while allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out seven.
In the second contest, the Eagles lead 1-0 after the second inning, but the Saints responded immediately with three runs in the third.
Amber Brewer hit an RBI single, followed by a Williams two RBI double to give Carroll a 3-1 lead.
Carroll padded the lead in the six inning when ApRoberts knocked a three RBI double to right center field.
Brewer struck again in the sixth inning, striking a RBI double to left center.
Northwest got one run back in the bottom of the sixth.
Tess Eaton (2-3) received the win on the mound, throwing seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out six and walking two.
The Saints face the Eagles twice more on Sunday at 12 and 2 p.m.
