Carroll softball splits with Ottawa

HELENA, Mont. -- Carroll College softball split a pair of games against Ottawa on Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Saints (5-8) dropped the first game 10-5. Ottawa put up five runs and the first, added three more over the second and third inning and held control the rest of the way.

Katie Huisman did go 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Ali Williams went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Saints' bats. Ashley Davis also added an RBI on 2-for-3 hitting.

Carroll bounced back in the second game.

Carroll's defense stiffened the Saints became the aggressors. Tiana Sell hit a RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to give the Saints the lead. Brooke Yarnall reached on a fielding error and then Michaela Boyette scored to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

Ottawa responded with a single run in the bottom of the fourth, but it would be all the Saints allowed in Game Two.

Carroll out-hit the Spirit 9-3 in the second game.

Williams (2-3) got the win on the mound, allowing three hits while walking three and striking out two.

Yarnall and Amber Brewer both went 2-for-4 to lead Carroll in the second game.

Carroll jumps back into conference play this weekend. The Saints will travel to Caldwell, Idaho, to face No. 3 Southern Oregon in a game that was originally scheduled to be the Saints' home opener.
