Carroll softball claims two bounce back wins over Benedictine

HELENA, Mont. -- Carroll College's softball team bounced back in the desert, claiming a doubleheader over Benedictine University at Mesa on Tuesday.

The Saints (4-7) traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, and earned 6-0 and 8-0 wins over the Redhawks (3-13) on Tuesday. 

In the opening game, the Saints received two RBIs from Brooke Yarnall and Amber Brewer

The Saints scored in the third inning when Tianna Sell hit a sacrifice fly and then Yarnall hit a two-RBI double. 

Carroll added to its lead in the fifth. Ali Williams hit a double to left-center and scored Josie Barker, giving the Saints a 4-0 lead. 

An A. Brewer single to centerfield scored Yarnall and Anna ApRoberts to push the Saints' lead to 6-0. 

Williams got the start on the mound recorded a shutout. She went seven innings, allowing three hits and walking two while striking out six. 

In the second game, Tess Eaton earned the shutout as the Saints struck early. 

A Natalie Gaber single scored Yarnall to give the Saints a 1-0 lead after one inning. 

Yarnall doubled in the second and scored Brittany Smith and Michaela Boyette. Amber Brewer knocked a double to deep center to give the Saints a 4-0 lead.

Mooney singled to score the fifth run in the bottom of the fourth. 

Williams struck in the sixth inning, slapping an RBI double. Brooke Brewer followed that up with an RBI single and then Mooney finalized the scoring with a sacrifice fly to give the Saints their 8-0 margin. 

Eaton threw six innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five to earn the shutout. 

On the day, Yarnall led the Saints' bats with 1 3-for-5 performance with four RBI. 

Carroll out-hit Benedictine 12-2.

Carroll is back in action Wednesday against Ottawa at 4 and 6 p.m.
