OIT sweeps Carroll softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Carroll College softball team lost a doubleheader to No. 9-ranked Oregon Tech on Saturday in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

The Owls (22-10, 9-3 Cascade Collegiate Conference) swept Carroll over four games this weekend.

The Owls racked up 13 hits and 11 runs in the first game to defeat the Saints 11-3 in five innings.

The Saints (9-16, 2-10 CCC) started the game with a homer by Amber Brewer to take a 1-0 lead.

But the Owls responded by scoring runs three runs in the first, second and fifth inning, sandwiching two solo-run innings in the third and fourth, to put away the Saints in five.

Tianna Sell hit a sacrifice fly to score one more run in the second inning and Jessica Nimmo also hit a solo-shot homer in the fourth inning to provide the Saints' scoring.

Carroll only recorded four hits on the day, led by A. Brewer's 2-for-3 effort.

The Saints started the second game with early offense, too. Anna ApRoberts cranked a one-run homer to give the Saints a quick lead.

OIT, once again, responded with three runs. Dre Sotelo hit a three-run homer to give the Owls a lead.

Brooke Brooker batted a double to left center to score another run for Carroll in the second inning.

OIT added to its lead with a home run and a score off a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. The Owls added one more in the third on a sacrifice fly to lead 6-2.

Then, the Saints rallied.

Courtney Schroeder blasted a two-run homer in the fourth to start the scoring. Another Saints run scored on a wild pitch. An error by the Owls allowed another run to come across the plate. Jessica Nimmo concluded the five-run inning for Carroll after she slapped a single to the right field.

At the end of the spree, the Saints led 7-6.

The Owls didn't let that lead last long.

OIT snatched the lead back on a fielder's choice and a two-run homer by Sotelo.

Leading 9-7, OIT uncorked its own five-run inning in the sixth to pull away from Carroll.

ApRoberts led the Saints' bats in the second contest with a 2-for-4 game at the plate.

Carroll is scheduled to host Eastern Oregon (4-21, 2-10) next weekend.

Notes: The Saints have not played at home yet this season.
