HELENA, Mont. -- Carroll College senior
Hannah Dean earned CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors.
Dean's aptitude in the classroom and on the court earned her the recognition. Dean is majoring in accounting and business administration with a 3.85 GPA and leading the Fighting Saints to another sterling season on the hardwood. Entering the final two games of the regular season, the Saints are 20-7 while Dean is leading the team in points (14.8), rebounds (7.3) assists (3), steals (2) and blocks (1) per game.
The award is voted on by members of CoSIDA using the following criteria: a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
Dean is one of five student-athletes selected from a geographic district that includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Canada.
While successful in the classroom, Dean has been active outside of it, too. Earlier this season she earned the Montana Athletes in Service Award, recognizing her community service contributions. She's also been appointed to the Montana High School Association Board as the governor's office representative.
Her all-district selection advances her to the ballot for the Google Cloud Academic All-America voting. Those named All-American will be announced in mid-March.
