HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College football team received 11 Frontier Conference all-conference selections, the league announced on Tuesday.
Ten Saints were honored. Matt Burgess,
Alex Hoffman, J.D. Lyle,
Shane Sipes and
Cole Greff were honored with first team all-conference nods.
Brian FauntLeRoy,
Tony Collins,
Tanner Steele,
Garrett Kocab,
Dylan Kresge and Sipes were selected to the second team.
Three offensive lineman were honored after paving the way for a successful season of offense. Hoffman, a junior from Draper, Utah, Lyle, a senior from Middleton, Idaho, and Steele, a junior from Lynden, Washington, were part of a unit that generated 213 rushing yards per game, the No. 14 mark in the NAIA. The group also allowed just one sack per game, the No. 8 mark in the NAIA.
Capitalizing and complementing the offensive line was Burgess, the freshman running back from Junction City, Oregon. The young back compiled 1,076 yards on 174 carries (a 6.2 yard per carry average) and scored 15 rushing touchdowns. He added seven receptions for 71 yards and a receiving touchdown. He's the most recent Carroll running back to go over 1,000 yards in a single season.
Dustin Rinker, Carroll's all-time leading rusher, accomplished the feat prior to that in 2014.
A junior from Newbury Park, California, Sipes was No. 8 in the NAIA in receiving yards per game with 97. He logged 56 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns. His 972 yards were the second-most receiving yards in the Frontier Conference and his career-high for a season. Sipes also took 13 kickoffs for 287 yards.
Collins also stretched defenses deep downfield. A sophomore tight end from Fort Worth, Texas, he caught 17 passes for 348 yards and six touchdowns.
Greff, a senior from Golden, Colorado, tormented offensive lines this season. The defensive lineman recorded 48 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, five tackles for a loss and one pass breakup.
His partner in the trenches, Kocab was a menace to opposing offenses this season, too. A sophomore defensive lineman from Phelan, California, he registered 31 total tackles, two sacks, 5.5 tackles for a loss, two pass breakups and blocked two kicks.
A force in the middle, Kresge corralled ball carriers all season. The senior from Helena, Montana, finished with 71 total tackles, half a sack and one tackle for a loss.
Protecting the back of the defense, FauntLeRoy made his presence felt. A junior from Whitefish, Montana, he racked up 47 total tackles, half a tackle for a loss, four interceptions and two passes defended.
