HELENA, Mont. --
Reghan Worley ran to All-American status and the Fighting Saints women's team placed 19th overall at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Friday in Vancouver, Washington.
A freshman from Evanston, Wyoming, Worley became the most recent Saints cross country runner to become an All-American since
Chance Hyatt accomplished the feat a season ago. Worley's time of 18:32.1 led the Saints.
"Reghan went into the race with a feisty and determined attitude and I am thrilled that her hard work this summer and fall paid off with the All-American finish," Saints coach
Shannon Flynn said.
Kendyl Pierson cracked the Top 100, finishing 94th in a time of 19:25.2
Other scorers for the Saints were
Natalie Yocum (19:53, 166th),
Katelyn McKay (19:56.8, 174th) and
Elly Machado (20:12.3, 212th).
Peyton Lipp ran a 20:52.2 while
Taylor Leistiko ran 21:28.9.
As a team, the Saints finished with a team score of 512 to finish in 19th.
"Even though our overall team finish wasn't as high as I thought we were capable of, I am proud of each person's willingness to battle on a tough course," Flynn said. "We are young overall and should feel happy about our performances and the lessons we can take forward into track and next cross country season. If our experience here together is meaningful and leaves us hungry to get better as a team, then we got what we came for."
Freshman
Jesse McMurtrey represented the men's team, finishing 160th in a time of 26:51.7.
"It was great to see Jesse have fun and hear him already setting big goals for next year," Flynn said.
