HELENA, Mont. -- Shane Sipes caught five passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, and the Carroll College Fighting Saints football team won their third consecutive game, defeating Montana State-Northern 27-6.
It was an ugly contest, as both teams combined for 26 penalties and over 230 yards lost to penalties.
The six points were the fewest the Saints (5-3) have given up this season. With five wins this season, the Saints have matched their win total from a season ago when they finished 5-6.
Matt Burgess got the Saints on the board early with a 15-yard run. He capped off a nine-play, 80-yard drive that put the Saints up 6-0 after the extra point failed.
It wasn't until the second quarter when the games' next score came. MSU-N's Marvin Williams Jr. took a 10-yard pass from Tre' Long to die the game at six.
Sipes put the Saints ahead for good when he caught a 43-yard pass from Bridgewater with 8:41 left in the second quarter.
Joe Farris got involved in the quarter, too, catching a 21-yard pass from Bridgewater.
Burgess cemented the scoring with a one-yard run in the third quarter.
The Saints' defense forced two fumbles, credited to Craig Kein and Dylan Kresge. Isazah King and Nate McGree were credited with the recoveries.
Payton Sexe, Kein and Rex Irby all sacked Northern's quarterback at least once, with Sexe recording two.
Brian FauntLeRoy picked off Northern's QB twice in the game and recorded a knockdown.
The win sets up a big Senior Day contest against Montana Tech (6-2) next Saturday.
