Carroll men's soccer falls 4-1 to EOU

HELENA, Mont. -- In the first of two road games, the Fighting Saints lost to Eastern Oregon 4-1 in a match that started off with both teams firing but soon slipped through the cracks for the Saints in La Grande, Oregon.

The game started off intense with goals coming in early. Just four minutes into the game a foul from the Fighting Saints led to a penalty kick from the Mountaineers' Javier Moran. Moran was able to sneak it past Saints goalkeeper Melle de Reuver to give Eastern an early 1-0 lead.

Only a few moments later in the 37th minute, Carroll's Birgir Stefansson shot was deflected by Eastern's goalie Max Rose. Off of the deflection, Nick Lowirmore was able to find the back of the net off the assist from Santiago Morazzani. This tied the game 1-1 and lifted the Fighting Saints' spirits.

With 12 minutes left in the first half the mountaineers Jack Rose was able to sneak one past Carroll's Reuver to give Eastern the 2-1 lead. The Saints would be coming out in the second half with the same intensity that they started the first half in hopes to tie the game once again.

Then Eastern really started firing. In the 59th minute Patrick Larsen scored off an assist from Erik Mattice. Just three minutes later, Mattice scored making the lead grow and the score 4-1. The Saints would not be able to overcome the three-point deficit.

Carroll will play College of Idaho Saturday to end their two-game road trip.
