Carroll women's soccer downs NCU 4-0

HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over Northwest Christian on Friday at Nelson Stadium.

The Fighting Saints (5-5-2, 2-4-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference) used goals from Blair Stapleton, Carsyn Kraft, Melissa Dugger and Kirsten Girolami to pounce on the Beacons.

"I'm very excited that we scored 35 seconds into the game," Saints coach Dave Thorvilson said.

Carroll held a 3-0 lead at halftime, as Stapleton scored in the game's opening minutes to get the Saints started off right and then Kraft added another in the eighth minute while Dugger struck in the 41st minute.

"It's nice to be home," Thorvilson said. "I think obviously we're excited being home, playing in your own bed, and playing on your own field, even with adverse conditions on the edge. I think it's nice when your whole team is together as well. It adds a little extra."

Girolami added her goal in the 59th minute to push the Saints up 4-0, after an assist by Charly Clements

"Kirsten's last goal was something we talked about at halftime -- opportunities to score more goals," Thorvilson said.

It's a quick turnaround for the Saints, who host the Corban Warriors on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., with games to be played at the auxiliary field at Carroll College. The game has been moved to the auxiliary field as the football team hosts College of Idaho at the same time in Nelson Stadium.

"I think we have to ride the high of just being at home and scoring four goals," Thorvilson said. "I think Corban having to travel distance-wise and playing in snow hopefully is an advantage to us. I'm kind of excited to be playing while football is going on and kind of nervous."
