HELENA, Mont. -- No. 4 Carroll College extended its stronghold on the Frontier Conference with a 79-61 win over Montana Tech on Tuesday night in the PE Center.
Matt Wyman led all scorers with 25 points and added 10 rebounds, while
Ife Kalejaiye and
Dane Warp each added 16 points and
Match Burnham had 11.
"Matt is a tough mismatch," Fighting Saints coach
Kurt Paulson said told Sports 94.9. "We found some spots where he's really good. He loves playing in front of this home crowd. I hope the Helena crowd knows how special he is."
Wyman and Kalejaiye shouldered most of the Saints' scoring in the first half, while Montana Tech's Taylor England put together a strong performance for Tech to keep the Orediggers within five points at halftime, 37-32.
Carroll (17-2, 6-1 Frontier Conference) started to double team England and slowed the Orediggers' offense.
"He's a big boy," Paulson said. "We threw a double on him. They threw it away a few times. It got their offense out of rhythm and we were happy with that."
Carroll led the entire way, and built upon their lead in the second half.
The Saints were able to build a commanding lead thanks to their efficient offense. Carroll shot 63 percent from the field, 58 percent from the three-point line and 86 percent from the foul line.
The Saints ran smooth offense and converted possessions into points or second or third opportunities.
It was Carroll's third consecutive win and second win over Tech this season. Carroll plays at Tech on Feb. 21 in the team's third regular season game.
Carroll travels to Billings on Thursday to face Rocky Mountain College (RV).
