Carroll College men's soccer dominates conference opener 15-0

Box Score HELENA, Mont. -- Carroll College's men's soccer team opened up conference play in commanding fashion, beating Walla Walla University 15-0 on Friday at Nelson Stadium in front of 200 in attendance.

"The combined fact that we were ready for the match, we had a good one against Whitworth, we have a big one coming up against Eastern… we needed to use this match to just play our style, play as well as we can," Saints coach Doug Mello said. "We played at the top of our game."

The Saints (2-1, 1-0 Cascade) took the lead in the 13th minute on a goal from Javi Porras. It was the first of three goals for the senior captain.

Carroll rocketed shots at Walla Walla (0-6, 0-1), outshooting the Wolves 44-7 on the game.

By halftime, the Saints led 7-0.

Pablo Salamanca joined Porras with three goals on the day. In total, 11 Saints scored.

"Against anybody we would have been successful with the way we played today, I think," Mello said. We did pass the ball quite well. We finished. We sometimes finish poorly and today was not the case. A lot of guys were on the scoreboard and we hope that gives them confidence going forward."

Carroll netted eight more goals in the second half to push the margin to 15-0.

The Saints face Eastern Oregon on Sunday at 2 p.m.
