Saints Softball Falls to No. 12 Corban

HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College softball fell twice to No. 12 Corban in a Cascade Conference doubleheader Friday in Helena. The Saints lost game one 7-5 in 10 innings and the second game 7-5.

The first game was a back and forth battle with plenty of power on both sides of the ball. 

Corban scored first with an RBI single in the first inning and added a run in the fourth with a solo home run. 

The Saints got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Anna ApRoberts walked to get on base and two batters later, sent a home run over the wall in dead center to tie the game up at 2-2.

In the top of the sixth, the Warriors hit another solo home run to take a 3-2 in the top of the sixth, but Carroll responded in the sixth. 

Mooney again came up clutch. She singled through the left side to score Jaylin Kenney

The game went into extra innings. The Saints had a chance in the bottom of the eighth but left two on base. 

In the top of the ninth, Corban rallied and scored two runs. The Saints responded with two runs of their own to tie the game at 5-5 after nine complete innings. 

The Warriors hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the 10th to take a 7-5 lead. 

Mooney again singled in the bottom of the 10th, but the Saints couldn't capitalize and the game ended 7-5. 

The Saints outhit Corban 15-10. Allison Bayer and Mooney were both 3-5 from the plate and Mooney had three RBIs. Brittany Hogan and Brittany Smith were both 2-4 and Jaylin Kenney was 2-5. 

Allison Williams gave up 10 hits and seven runs while striking out a school record 13. 

In game two, the Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead with one in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth. 

Carroll responded in the bottom of the fifth. When Smith homered to center field to score Brooke Yarnall and Mooney to cut the lead to 6-3.

In the seventh, Corban scored one to extend the lead to 7-3. Carroll cut the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Tianna Sell scored on a wild pitch and Brittany Hogan scored on an ApRoberts single. It wouldn't be enough and Corban held on for the win. 

ApRoberts was 2-4 from the plate and five other Saints notched hits. Smith notched three RBIs. 

Tess Eaton gave up eight hits and seven runs, three of which were earned and walked four. 

Carroll closes out the regular-season with a doubleheader at Centennial Park against Corban. The first game will be a Cascade Conference game and the second will be non-conference.

The Saints will celebrate the three seniors on this year's team; Kenney, Hogan and Bayer.
