ASHLAND, Ore. – Carroll College softball fell twice to No. 9 Southern Oregon but clinched a spot in the Cascade Conference postseason with a pair of wins by Northwest Christian over the College of Idaho.
The first game of the doubleheader was another hard-fought loss to SOU. Southern Oregon scored a run in the first inning.
The Saints had a good opportunity in the fifth inning, but couldn't get a run across the plate and SOU held on for the one-run win.
Allison Williams gave up four hits and one run. She walked one and struck out four.
Allison Bayer and
Brittany Smith notched Carroll's only hits.
In game two, the non-conference game in the series, SOU jumped out with six runs in the bottom of the first inning.
In the fourth inning,
Ashley Davis singled to right center to score Williams. In the next at-bat, Smith reached on an error and
Kendall Mooney scored to cut the deficit to 6-2, that is as close as the Saints would come.
SOU added a pair of runs in the fourth and walked off the Carroll with two runs in the fifth.
Brooke Brown fell to 5-6 on the year. She gave up nine hits and 10 runs in the game. She walked five and struck out three.
Bayer, Davis and
Brittany Hogan all picked up hits for the Saints.
Despite the frustrating day, the Saints locked up a spot in the Cascade Conference tournament. They currently sit in fifth place.
Carroll closes out the regular season at home with a series against 13th-ranked Corban Friday and Saturday.
