ASHLAND, Ore. – Carroll College softball dropped two games to ninth-ranked Southern Oregon Friday afternoon, including a heartbreaker in game one to open the weekend series against the Raiders.
The Saints led for most of the game before the Raiders came back to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send it into extra innings where SOU picked up the win with a run in the bottom of the eighth.
Carroll opened the scoring in the top of the third when
Allison Williams singled to centerfield to score
Anna ApRoberts and
Jaylin Kenney.
Carroll went the next few innings with just a single base runner. SOU had a chance in the sixth but left two on base.
In the seventh, they picked up one run on a double and added a run on a fielder's choice to tie the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Kenney led off the eighth with a single and advanced to second, but couldn't work her way the rest of the way around the bags to score.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Raiders opened with back to back hits, the second being a triple to pick up the 3-2 win.
Williams fell to 12-7 on the year. She gave up eight hits and three runs while striking out three.
Kenney was 2-4 and Williams was 2-3. Carroll mustered six hits and left six on base.
In game two, SOU scored one in the second, but Carroll responded with a run in the third on a single by Kenney that scored
Brittany Hogan.
The Raiders scored three runs in the third and added two more in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Saints added a run in the sixth on a
Brooke Yarnall doubled to right center to score
Kendall Mooney, but it would not be enough for the comeback.
Tess Eaton fell to 10-2 on the year. She gave up nine hits and six runs, walked four and struck out three.
Brooke Yarnall was 2-3 in game two. The Saints had seven hits and left five on base.
Carroll closes the series tomorrow with a pair of games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pacific. The games will be streamed on the
