WEST COVINA, Calif. – Carroll College softball went winless in the second day at the NAIA SO Cal Classic, with losses to William Jessup University, Vanguard University, and Hope International University.
Against William Jessup, Carroll led 7-5 going into the 7th inning helped by a two-run home run by
Anna ApRoberts in the bottom of the fourth. William Jessup rallied in the top of the seventh and scored five runs to go ahead by the eventual final score, 10-7. Four of their final runs came with two outs.
William Jessup moves to 8-3 on the season.
In the second game of the day,
Allison Williams was able to hold Vanguard to four hits, but she gave up the only run of the game, a first-inning solo shot to left field by Vanguard's Samantha Shaffer. The Saints spread four hits between four different players and were never able to get a runner past third base.
Tianna Sell had an opportunity to give the Saints the lead in the top of the seventh and sent the ball flying to the outfield. Vanguard's Amber Huffman gave chase, crashed into the fence, and caught the ball to seal the Lions win.
Vanguard undefeated this year at 10-0.
Carroll's third game of the night ended in a 12-4 loss to Hope International. A couple of errors by the Saints showed a lack of experience outside of a gym so far this season.
Natalie Gaber and Tiana Sell provided a spark in the middle of Carroll's lineup. The two combined for five hits, three runs, and two RBIs.
Hope International is now 8-1, their only loss coming against Carroll Friday.
Carroll closes the tournament with two games Sunday against Marymount California University at 10 a.m. MST and Menlo College at 12 p.m. MST. Look for both games to be live-streamed on Carroll Athletics' Facebook page.
