No. 8 Carroll College handles Tech's challenge, 65-49

HELENA, Mont. -- Dani Wagner scored a career high 22 points and the No. 8 Carroll College Saints forced 29 turnovers to roll past Montana Tech 65-49 on Saturday in the PE Center.

The Saints (11-3, 3-0 Frontier Conference) only turned the ball over 11 times.

"I think overall 11 turnovers against a team that presses the whole time... obviously I'm happy with that," Saints coach Rachelle Sayers told Sports 94.9. "When you're turning somebody over 29 times, you're doing something right."

After swapping buckets with the Orediggers in the first quarter, the Saints clamped down in the second. Carroll outscored Tech 19-8 in the second period, and took a 35-25 lead into halftime.

There was no letdown in the second half. The Saints improved their defense in the third quarter, limiting Tech to just six points in 10 minutes.

"Everybody is contributing," Sayers said. "I thought tonight we got good contributions from our bench. We're putting ourselves in position to have a lot of success."

Eleven Saints saw court time, while nine scored.

Wagner shot 9-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from the three-point line, to give the Saints 22 points, while adding four steals and four rebounds.

"She's just really coming on," Sayers said. "She's playing with a lot of confidence. I'm not surprised. She's an extremely hard worker."

Christine Denny added 14 points and Hannah Dean added 11 with seven assists.

Celestina Faletoi led the Orediggers with 10 points.

The Orediggers pressed the Saints and played a physical game, but the Saints remained poised and still found high quality shots. Carroll shot 44 percent from the field for the game.

Carroll next travels to Billings to face the No. 18-ranked Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears on Jan. 3.

NOTES: How about them Havre kids? While Wagner led the Saints women's team in scoring, junior Dane Warp led the men with 21 points…
