No. 7 Carroll College defeats Valley City State 69-58

HELENA, Mont. -- Hannah Dean and Sienna Swannack combined for 26 points and the No. 7-ranked Carroll College Saints defeated No. 16 (NAIA D-II) Valley City State 69-58 on Saturday at the Yellowjackets Classic in Billings.

"We had some great play by our 2 point guards, (Jaidyn) Lyman and Swannack, especially in the second half," Saints coach Rachelle Sayers said. "Mikaela Olson also came off the bench and gave us a huge lift. 19 steals in a college game is pretty amazing. I am really happy with the intensity and focus our kids are showing. That was a good Top 20 team we beat today."

The Saints (4-1) led the entire way, surging out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.

Carroll shot 48 percent from the field, 39 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the foul line to while holding down VCSU's offense (44% FG, 33% 3-pt, 68% FT).

The Saints bench also came up huge, scoring 32 points.

The Saints forced the Vikings into 23 turnovers, recording 19 steals.

Swannack's 13 points are her career high.

Carroll is back in action on Sunday against Montana State University Billings.

"Tomorrow we will definitely have our hands full," Sayers said. "MSUB is deadly from the three-point line and they can really score. We are going to have to be better on the boards and clean up our turnovers if we are going to have a chance to get them on their home court. "
