HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Saints led NCAA D-II Montana State Billings with a little over two minutes remaining, but the Yellowjackets battled back to grab a 63-61 win on Sunday at the Yellowjacket Classic in Billings.
The No. 7-ranked Saints took a lead when senior forward
Hannah Dean scored a bucket in the paint with under three minutes remaining.
MSU B's Hannah Collins drew a foul and hit three free throws to put the 'jackets back up by one. MSU B would tack on three more free throws to hold off the Saints late.
Dean led all scorers with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Joining her in double figures were
Taylor Salonen with 12 (6-of-8) and
Brittney Johnson with 11 (3-of-6 threes).
Carroll shot 39 percent from the field, 21 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the foul line.
The Saints used a nine-man rotation, with seven different players scoring.
Five players reached double figures to lead MSU Billings.
Carroll concluded its preseason schedule with a 4-2 record. The Saints begin conference play on Thursday against the No. 18-ranked Argonauts of Providence in the PE Center.
