HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College men's soccer team is heading into the final weekend of regular season play and currently sits in eighth place, the final spot for a playoff berth to the Cascade Collegiate Conference postseason tournament.
Carroll currently has a 5-5-1 conference record and needs to tie one of their final two games to secure a point and the final post season spot.
"We had a couple chances, previously, to kind of get things done and it just didn't happen," head coach
Doug Mello said. "It's always a little disconcerting to be in the last weekend needing a combination of things. We need one point and we should be able to get that in two matches. We are playing the best team in the conference, you know, last match of the season."
"I'm mostly just excited," Senior midfielder,
Alessio Georgiades, added. "It's been a good four years, and I'm happy to end it here at home. But the biggest thing is we're looking to win this weekend's game and go to the playoffs to extend the season. I think we're ready for it and we're looking to win both. I know it's a challenge, but we're up for it."
The Saints will have freshman goalkeeper, Kaden Conner, back from suspension to start for the weekend. He received a red card against Northwest in Kirkland last weekend.
Friday's game will feature a contest between the Saints and the seventh-ranked Owls of Oregon Institute of Technology starting at 1:30 p.m. in Nelson Stadium.
Sunday's game against the first-ranked Southern Oregon Raiders will start out by honoring the last regular season game for the seniors. It will be played at 11 a.m. in Nelson Stadium.
"It makes for an emotional game because we're saying bye to eight really big parts of our program in the last four years," Mello said. "All are great student-athletes. You want to go out going to the playoffs."
