Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | ERIK C. ANDERSON, CARROLL SPORTS INFORMATION

Carroll women's soccer defeats Providence 4-1, remains unbeaten in CCC

HELENA, Mont. -- The undefeated run through the Cascade continues.

Carroll College's women's soccer team (7-5-2, 6-0-2) picked up a 4-1 win over the University of Providence Argonauts on Monday. The game was played Monday after a postponement Saturday due to snow and frigid temperatures.

"I just think it's difficult," Saints coach Dave Thorvilson said. "We were hoping to play Saturday. We put all this effort into it. Extending that three days… Both teams were a little flat to get going. And then it picked up a little bit."

Junior midfielder Kirsten Girolami scored the game's opening goal after an assist from Payton Netz

The Argonauts knotted the game at 1-1 at halftime before the Saints put it away in the second half.

"Very excited to get the win and finish the second half off," Thorvilson said.

Makayla Welch, Netz and Katie Martin all scored goals in the second half to give the Saints a major boost.

The game had a physical feel to it, as Rachel Quade and an Argonauts forward collided and cracked each other's heads. Quade, a junior from Billings, was able to finish the contest despite the hard knock.

Saints keeper Devan Murfitt recorded nine saves in the goal on Monday.

The Argonauts outshot the saints 15-10, including 10-7 on frame, but Carroll made the most of its opportunities and also out-cornered Providence 5-1.

The Saints head to Kirkland, Washington, on Friday to take on Northwest University.
