HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's soccer team found the goal early and often while scoring the fourth shutout in as many games to cruise to a 7-0 home win over Presentation College Sunday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
The Saints got on the board in the first minute, but it wasn't a Carroll player that put it in. After a beautiful cross from
Charly Clements left the ball in the box, three players, Carroll's
Payton Netz and
Christina Plank and a Presentation defender attacked the ball. The Presentation player punched the ball right into the near post for the own goal.
Carroll added two goals in the first half with Netz scoring a header in the 11th minute on a free kick assist from
Talya Vaira. The free kick from 30 yards out cleared the wall where Netz beat her defender and chipped over the goal keeper's head.
In the 13th minute, another free kick from Vaira found Netz in the box but she was well covered by a defender, Apsey streaked in unchecked and sent the ball through traffic and past the keeper at the far post to put the Saints up 3-0.
In the second half, Carroll again got into the action with a goal in the 50th minute when
Alexa Fries beat her defender and sent a cross to the far post where
Brynn Walker streaked in and tapped it in with her left foot.
Just three minutes later, Fries tried to send another cross, but it was deflected into the goal by a Presentation layer to put the Saints up 5-0.
Carroll finished with a pair of goals from
HanSena DiNoia. In the 79th minute, she received a cross past the net and dribbled around her defender before beating the keeper to the near post. In the 87th minute, a cross from
Cassidy Walter set her up perfectly at the far post for the header goal to close out the scoring in the 7-0 win.
The Saints outshot Presentation 26-4, including a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal.
"One of the things we emphasized this week was getting ready for conference," Head coach
David Thorvilson said. "We didn't want to overlook anyone, and we are still trying to figure a few things out, but anytime you score seven goals, you are working well together."
Carroll was also able to play 26 players.
The Saints open Cascade play Friday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
