HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College men's soccer hits the road to open the Cascade Conference season at Walla Walla University Friday before playing Multnomah University Saturday in Portland.
The Saints (2-1) are coming off of a 2—weekend that included a 2-1 OT win over NCAA DIII Whitworth and a 14-0 pounding of Presentation (S.D.).
"We are happy to get conference play going," head coach
Doug Mello said. "We are ready to get into conference play. We have a long trip, we hope to use all of our players."
Just three games in for the Saints and three Carroll players already have multiple goals, led by
Sam Malouf who tied a school record with four goals against Presentation.
Early indications seem to show that the Saints have solved the problem that has dogged them the last few years of struggling to finish around the goal.
"We've got guys in the right positions," Mello said. "We are working on putting the ball on frame, and we've scored some goals off of set plays, so we are happy about that. When you look at the way our offense has been playing, I am happy with the direction we are heading."
The Saints meet two teams that have historically struggled in the Cascade Conference. Walla Walla is 0-1 on the year with an 8-2 loss against Linfield (Ore.) as their lone non-conference match.
Multnomah is 2-0 on the year with wins against Pacific Union and Simpson. They have 10 goals in two games and have only given up three.
The Saints take on Walla Walla at 3:30 p.m. Friday before playing Multnomah at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
