HELENA, Mont. - No. 18 Southern Oregon swept Carroll College Softball 6-2 and 5-1 in the opening two games of a Cascade Conference series Friday at Centennial Park in Helena.
Â
Allison Bayer singled in
Courtney Cloud in the 3rd inning, to give the Saints a one-run lead which they would hold on to until, in the 7th inning, the Raiders scored six runs including an RBI triple from Kayleen Smith that brought in two runs.
Â
Jaylin Kenney had an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to bring one run across, but it was not enough, and the Saints lost by a score of 6-2.
Â
In game two, the Saints got down early at the hands of a Harley Donovan RBI groundout in the top of the first inning. An RBI double by
Ashley Davis evened the score, but that was the only run in the game for the Saints offense.
Â
The game was blown open in the sixth inning by back-to-back home runs from Kelsey Randall and Kayleen Smith, and after that, there was no looking back for the Raiders. Game two ended with a final score of 5-1.
Â
Carroll falls to a record of 12-17, and Southern Oregon is now 34-9.
Â
Saturday, the Saints and the Raiders close the series with games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The first game will count as a Cascade Conference game. The second will be non-conference.
Â
It will also be senior day for
Courtney Cloud and
Megan Gipe, who will be honored in-between games.
