Carroll Hosts Lewis-Clark in the Frontier Title Game

HELENA, Mont. - Tuesday, fourth-ranked Carroll College hosts Lewis-Clark State in a rematch of the 2016 Frontier title game at the PE Center. It is the first title game to take place in Helena since 2011. Carroll, the Frontier regular-season champions, enters the championship game on a five-game winning, including a 63-60 win over the Warriors in the regular-season finale.

The Saints took care of MSU-Northern 72-57 at the PE Center in the Frontier semifinals, while LCSC, the third seed in the tournament, overcame a late deficit to upset Montana Western 101-95 in overtime in Dillon.

Carroll and Lewis-Clark have met three times this season with Carroll coming out on top, twice on the road in Lewiston. The Saints beat the Warriors 73-72 on Jan. 14 and 81-78 (OT) on Feb. 3 before the season finale game in Lewiston.

"We are definitely excited, grateful for the opportunity we are aware how good Lewis-Clark State is," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "Every time play them it's been a one-possession game. They can score in bunches and from different spots on the floor. They are very fast and pass it well. It'll be a hard-fought affair."

With three meetings this season already, the teams know each other very well, but the Cunningham knows there is still work to be done.

"Lewis-Clark State has added some wrinkles over the weeks, and they run some really good offense action," Cunningham said. "They have sophisticated players, so there are plenty of things for us to reinforce and continue to sharpen, and even learn about their squad. We are just going to try to use this time to prepare and be ready, and just be ready when it's time to tip it off."

Doug McDaniel is the leading scorer in the Frontier Conference at 18.25 points per game, and Zavon Jackson leads the Warriors in rebounds, assists and steals. Jackson has been very effective lately, averaging 19.2 points per game over the last five games.

The Saints are led by Ryan Imhoff who averages a game-high 17.35 points and 6.45 rebounds per game. Senior Zach Taylor averages 16.9 points per game and leads the Saints with 3.61 assists and 2.16 steals per game.

The game will be the last home game in Taylor's stellar career. The senior saw the Saints win just nine games his freshman year and ends his career with a Frontier Conference championship game on his home court.

"It is stunning to think what Zach Taylor has done in his four years here, and far he has helped take this program with the amount of productivity that he's been able to carry out," Cunningham said. "It's awesome for the fans to be able to see him play at home for the last time in a Conference Championship game. We are hoping the fans come bringing the noise like they did Saturday. It is going to be fun."

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast throughout Montana, North Idaho, and Eastern Washington on SWX. SWX is available over-the-air in Helena on channel 21.3, in Great Falls on channel 5.3, in Missoula on channel 23.3 and in Butte and Bozeman on 18.3. The station is also available on Charter Spectrum on channel 199 state-wide.

As always, Jason Walker will have the call on 94.9 ESPN Montana Radio in Helena and on the internet at espnmontana.com. A live stream will be available on the Carroll Athletics youtube page and live stats will be available via Dakstats.
