HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's basketball team overcame a big second-half run by the University of Calgary to hold on for a 59-54 win Friday evening at the PE Center.
The Dinos struck first with a bucket by Shannon Hatch, but the Saints went on a 7-0 run and built a 13-7 lead after the first quarter.
Carroll extended the lead to 32-17 with 2:16 left in the first half before Calgary battled back. The Dinos cut the lead the 32-22 at the half and outscored the Saints 22-11 in the third quarter to take a 44-43 lead into the final frame.
Carroll went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and held Calgary without a field goal for over seven minutes to build a 57-47 lead. The Dinos closed the game on a 7-2 run, but it wouldn't be enough as the Saints held on for the five-point win.
Michaela Dowdy score a game-high 15 point, and Bailey Pasta added 14 for the Saints. The Saints were 19-49 (38.8 percent) from the field and 8-26 (30.8 percent) from the three-point line.
Carroll notched a slight edge on the glass, outrebounding Calgary 34-32. Hannah Dean tallied a game-high nine boards.
Calgary was 20-47 (42.6 percent) from the field and 4-11 (36.4 percent) from the three-point line. The Dinos were just 10-23 (43.5 percent) from the free throw line.
Carroll moves to 8-4 on the year with one final game to play in the non-conference slate, tomorrow against the University of Lethbridge. The Pronghorns dropped a tight game 79-73 to Montana Tech Friday in Butte.
