Helena, Mont. – The Carroll College women's soccer team had one task in the first half of Friday's match against Northwest University, hold the Eagles scoreless despite NU having a stiff wind at their backs. The Saints held strong and with the wind at their backs in the second half, defeated Northwest University 1-0.
Despite the brutal wind in the their faces in the first half, the Saints outshot NU 3-1.
The Saints took the lead with a 58th-minute goal from
Makayla Welch. After receiving her own deflected pass, she settled the ball and sent in a screamer from 28 yards out from the right side of the field to give Carroll the lone goal of the game.
Northwest looked like they had a chance to equalize with three shots on goal late in the game.
Overall the Saints held the Northwest Eagles to 4 total shots on goal giving
Devan Murfitt her 5th shutout of the year.
The Saints move to 6-6-2 on the year and 2-4-2 in conference. The Eagles fall to 7-7 and 4-4 in conference. Carroll needs to win-out in order to make it to the Cascade Conference Tournament.
Carroll will celebrate Senior Day tomorrow at 12 p.m. as they take on the Geoducks of Evergreen State at Nelson Stadium.
