Helena, Mont. – Seniors
Jessica Becker and
Christina Plank each scored goals and all six seniors started and finished the game for the Carroll College women's soccer team as they earned a 2-0 win over Evergreen State Saturday at Nelson Stadium.
Head Coach Dave Thorvilson was excited to see everyone contribute today.
"I think it's always special on senior day when you can finish the game with all your seniors on the field," he said. "I think that meant everybody else did their job, and we were able to get them on and honor them the last few minutes of the game. Having two seniors score two goals today on the last regular season match at home is a great feeling."
The Fighting Saints were able to capitalize on great team defense. The Geoducks had five total shots and only one on goal and did not earn a corner kick.
Devan Murfitt and
Sydney Green shared time in front of the goal.
Thorvilson also praised the hard work put in lately that lead to Carroll's first goal by Becker.
"Just a beautiful ball from the far-left side brought the ball across and slid the ball far post. Jessica had the chance to put the ball into the back of the net, and something we've been working on these past two weeks is just setting up goal scoring opportunities and shooting and she paid attention."
Carroll needed to earn six points (two wins) this weekend to stay in contention for post-season play and did just that. "We've still got some work to do. We had to get through this weekend to still have a chance, and we have, so now we prepare for the next two matches."
Looking forward, the Saints play the Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Oregon next Friday at 2 pm in a must-win game.
