HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's soccer team fell to the University of Providence 2-1 in overtime Sunday at Nelson Stadium in Helena.
The Saints took the lead with a 64th-minute goal from
Brynn Walker. She received a cross to the middle of the box and worked around a defender and scored to the top corner of the goal to put the Saints 1-0.
Carroll looked like it was headed for the win, but Malena Lennon scored in the 83rd minute on an assist from Eme McLaughlin to equalize. The score would hold through regulation.
In the first overtime, the Argos had a chance to put it away when a Carroll handball in the box set up a penalty kick. The kick went wide right, and the game continued.
Providence had another chance early in the second overtime, and this time, they capitalized. In the 101st minute, McLaughlin received a long assist from Sandralee DeVille and caught her defender out of position. She sent the ball far post to earn the goal and the win.
Carroll falls to 5-6-2 overall and 1-4-2 in conference. Providence is now 5-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
The Saints next host Northwest University on Friday, Oct. 20 at Nelson Stadium.
