No. 13 Saints Shut Down UGF to Earn 71-32 Win

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The 13th-ranked Carroll College men's basketball team held the University of Great Falls to 26.4 percent from the field and five Saints scored in double figures en route to a 71-32 road victory over the Argos, the eighth-straight win for the Saints.

The win, coupled with a 90-89 loss by Montana Western on the road at Lewis-Clark State, gives the Saints lone possession of first place in the Frontier Conference standings.

"The Fighting Saints are flying around on D, chirping, rotating, grappling," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "It's fun to coach, a delight to watch. We just need to keep developing as a group, feeding off each other's energy on both ends of the floor. We've played five of our last six on the road and are looking forward to getting back home."

The Saints opened the game on a 10-2 run and never looked back. Carroll led 37-22 at the half. UGF hit the first bucket of the second half but didn't score again until the 13:27 mark. Carroll built a 31-point lead and continued to pour it on.

The Saints led 71-30 in the final minute before a basket by Sergio Berkley set the final score at 71-32.

The Argos were 14-53 from the field and 0-14 from the three-point line.

Carroll kept the efficient offense going, hitting 28-44 (63.6 percent) from the field and 5-8 (62.5 percent) from the three-point line.

Zach Taylor led the way with 17 points, Oliver Carr had 13 on 6-7 shooting, Steven Helm had 12 points on 5-5 shooting. Ryan Imhoff and Dane Warp each had 10.

The Saints are now 19-3 on the season and 9-1 in Frontier Conference play. The Saints will play the next five of six at home after playing the last five of six on the road. The stretch begins Thursday against Montana Tech at the PE Center.
