HELENA, Mont. – The 13th-ranked Carroll College men's basketball team has rattled off six-straight wins and is playing stellar defense, holding opponents to an average of 64 points during that stretch.
This weekend, the Saints travel north to play at MSU-Northern Friday before playing the University of Great Falls Saturday.
The Saints won both matchups earlier this season, topping Great Falls 94-56 and MSU-Northern 63-51. MSUN has gone 2-2 since that loss but the Argos have dropped five straight.
Despite the struggles by the two teams, the Saints are under no illusions on how hard it is to win on the road in the Frontier Conference.
"We have two tough games ahead in the battle-royale that is the Frontier Conference," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "We need to arrive north with a high-level of intensity and a defensive mindset. It is buckle up time."
The Saints enter the week as the No. 1 field goal percentage team and the No. 1 free throw percentage team in NAIA DI.
Ryan Imhoff leads the Saints in points (17.7 PPG), rebounds (6.8 RPG), assists (3.6 APG) and blocks (1.35 BPG).
Zach Taylor is second with 16.1 PPG and
Match Burnham averages 11.7 points per game.
The Lights are 15-5 and 4-4 in Frontier play. They play a stifling brand of defense, holding opponents to an NAIA-best 58 points a game. Only one Lights player, Ryan Reeves averages double figures, he is scoring 10.3 PPG.
UGF is 10-9 and 2-6 in Frontier play. Matthew Brooks-McGregor leads the Argos with 11.8 points per game. Sergio Berkley is scoring 11.42 points per game and Isaac Howard averages 10.42.
MSU-Northern and UGF play Thursday night in Havre.
The Saints and Lights are scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m. Friday at the Armory in Havre. The game will be broadcast live on 94.9 FM ESPN Montana Radio and live on ESPNMontana.com. Live video will be available via MSU-Northern and live stats will be available via Dakstats.
