Hashley, Dean Key Win Over Rocky

HELENA, Mont. – The twin towers of the Carroll women's basketball team, Cassidy Hashley and Hannah Dean, turned in a combined 32 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Saints to a 71-50 win over Rocky Mountain Saturday evening at the PE Center.

The Saints and Bears battled through the first quarter with neither team gaining more than a four-point lead and closed the quarter tied at 15.

The second quarter was all Carroll. The Saints held Rocky scoreless for over four minutes while going on a 9-0 run. Carroll continued to push and Hashley scored a bucket in the final seconds to give the Saints a 39-25 lead at the break.

Rocky Mountain cut the lead to 41-32 early in the third quarter but the Saints rattled off 12-3 run to push the lead to 53-35 with 2:27 left in the quarter.

The Saints held the Bears at arm's length for the rest of the game and cruised to the 21-point win.

Dean had a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds. Hashley had 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The inside game was a hug part of the win, a part of the game that struggled in the two-point loss to Montana Western Thursday night.

"It's been tough for our posts," head coach Rachel Sayers said. "They've seen something different every game. Just to get them to be comfortable and confident going to their moves. Some teams pick and choose their poison. Western went single coverage a lot and then doubled it when we put it on the ground. A lot of teams are doing different things. Hannah did a good job of attacking and facing up early."

Bailey Pasta added 13 points. Only one Rocky Player, Justy Juhl, scored in double-figures. She had 14.

The Saints were 29-56 (51.8 percent) from the field and 9-21 (42.9 percent) from the three-point line. Rocky Mountain made just 14 field goals, hitting 14-41 (34.1 percent) but were 5-12 (41.7 percent) from the three-point line.

The Saints outrebounded Rocky 36-21.

Carroll is now 13-7 on the year and 3-5 in Frontier Conference play. Rocky falls to 10-10 and 2-6 in conference.

The Saints next travel to Havre to play at MSU-Northern Friday, Jan. 27.
