Carroll Women Fall to MSU-Northern 47-43 in Defensive Slugfest

HAVRE, Mont. – The Carroll College women's basketball team held No. 11 MSU-Northern to just 47 points, 20 points lower than their season average but couldn't find the offensive punch to go with the stifling defense and fell to the Skylights 47-43 in Havre Friday.
 
The Saints controlled the first and third quarter while the Skylights dominated the second and fourth.
 
After battling to a 4-4 tie with 4:55 left in the first quarter, the Saints closed the quarter on a 9-3 run to take a 13-7 lead at the break.
 
The Skylights took the lead with 1:28 left in the first half on a three-pointer from Cydney Auzenne. MSUN carried a 24-21 lead into the half.
 
The Saints outscored Northern 14-9 in the third quarter and led 35-33 going into the fourth. After trading buckets to start the fourth quarter, the Lights went on a 6-0 run to take a 45-39 lead.
 
Carroll cut the lead to 45-43 with 1:43 remaining but Northern answered on the next possession. Carroll had a few opportunities to answer but couldn't score and the Lights closed the four-point win.
 
Cassidy Hashley scored 18 points to lead all scorers. Bailey Pasta tallied 11 points and Hannah Dean tallied a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
The Saints were 20-49 (40.8 percent) from the field but struggled from the three-point line, hitting just 3-16 (18.8 percent). Carroll did not shoot a single free throw.
 
The Skylights were 17-37 (45.9 percent) from the field and 3-8 (37.5 percent) from the 3-point line. MSUN was 10-14 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line.
 
Carroll falls to 13-8 overall and 3-6 in Frontier play, the Lights are now 17-4 overall and 7-3 on the year.
