Saints Survive Montana Tech 74-67

HELENA, Mont. – The 23rd-ranked Carroll College men's basketball team withstood a furious comeback attempt to earn a 74-67 road win over Montana Tech at the Hyper Athletic Complex in Butte Thursday night.

The Saints dominated the first half, building a 43-26 lead at the break and led 70-48 with 3:56 remaining in the game before the Diggers closed the game on a 19-4 run to close the game. The run provided the game with high drama but it ultimately wasn't enough and the Saints held on for the seven-point win.

Four Saints scored in double figures led by Ryan Imhoff with 17 points. Match Burnham tallied 16 points, including three 3-pointers in the second half. Steven Helm III started 2-2 from the field and 5-5 from the line and closed the game with 11 points. Matt Wyman scored 13 points, including 11 in the first half.

Carroll was 24-57 (51.1 percent) from the field and 5-11 (45.5 percent) from the three-point line. The Saints were also 21-25 (84.0 percent) from the free-throw line.

Montana Tech shot 25-51 (49.0 percent) from the field and were 5-11 (45.5 percent) from the 3-point line. The Diggers struggled from the line shooting 12-23 (52.2 percent).

Chris O'Neill led Tech with 22 points. Lukas Vining scored 18 points and Kale Guldseth added 10.

Vining and Wyman, former teammates at Great Falls High combined to score the first 14 points of the game.

"It was nice to see the fellas get another road win in the Frontier," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "This is a tough league and any road win is big. We made some nifty passes and shared the rock well. Win or lose, we need to learn from the game, continue to grow as we prepare for the next one."

Carroll is now 14-3 on the year and 4-1 in Frontier Conference. Montana Tech is 6-11 on the year and 0-6 in Frontier play.

The Saints next travel to Lewiston Idaho to face Lewis-Clark State Saturday at 8:30 p.m. MST. The Warriors are 12-5 on the year. The game will be broadcast on 104.5 Mo Legends and on ESPNMontana.com, a live stream will be available via lcwarriors.com and live stats are available via Dakstats.
