HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College men's soccer hosts Eastern Oregon Thursday and Warner Pacific Friday to open the home Cascade Conference slate.
The Saints opened Cascade Conference play last weekend and split the two games, topping Northwest Christian 2-1 before falling to No. 20 Corban 2-0. Head coach
Doug Mello was pleased with the way his team played, despite adding a loss to the record.
"Our effort was commendable," Mello said. "We gave Corban a good run but they got the goals and won the match. Our energy was great, if we can keep our level high I think we can take two this weekend and put ourselves in a good situation."
The Saints are 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in Cascade play.
Isaac Bostrom leads the Saints with four goals on the season. The Saints have impressive wins on their record but there is a lot of work to do to make the team more consistent.
"It has been tough this year, we wait and see what team will show up," Mello said. "We have the talent to do well in the conference but you have to bring you're a-game every game. You can't take a game off against the teams we play."
Eastern Oregon brings a 5-1-1 record into the weekend but was 0-1-1 last weekend to start the Cacades Schedule.
"They are obviously improved and started the season on a good note," Mello said. "We are hoping that we have a good home field advantage playing on homecoming weekend. Eastern is going to be a tough battle."
Warner Pacific is 1-3-1 on the year and also went 0-1-1 to start the Cascade slate. Artur Pereira Santos leads the Knights with two goals on the season and goalkeeper Erdal Barkay is ranked in the top 50 in Saves and saves per games.
"Warner traditionally brings a good mixture of west coast players and international talent," Mello said. "They have a good goal keeper but we will look get an early goal. We need to score goals. Defensively we have performed admirable but we haven't put the ball in the net. We create chances but we aren't putting them away."
The Saints take on the Mountaineers at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Stadium before hosting the Knights Friday at 2 p.m.
Both games will be available via Carroll Athletics Youtube channel.
