ATHERTON, Calif. – The Master's College scored early and the Carroll College women's soccer team failed to get on the board until late as the Mustangs topped Carroll 2-1 Saturday in the second of three matches this weekend for the Saints.
"They were a bit more physical than we were expecting and we didn't respond well to that," head coach David Thorvilson said. "The PK in the third minute really set the tone. They were more prepared for the match and we didn't play very well today."
The Mustangs got on the board in just the third minute of the match when a TMC player was fouled in the box, setting up a penalty kick for TMC. Michaela Rickard scored the PK to give the Mustangs the early lead.
TMC got back on the board with a goal in the 56 minute to put themselves up 2-0. The Saints finally responded late in the game.
Alison Zimmerman sent a perfect pass to
Payton Netz and she knocked in the ball for the goal in the 81st minute.
"We made some adjustments with 20 minutes left to push to get a goal," Thorvilson said. "Ali put the ball in a perfect spot and Payton punched it in. We played much better in the final few minutes. It would have been nice to see that the whole game but it was nice to see that over the final few minutes."
The Saints close out the weekend with a match against NCAA DIII Mills College in Oakland Sunday at 2 p.m. Mountain.
