HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College men's soccer team looks to rebound Monday at Nelson Stadium when the Saints host in-state foe MSU Billings. The game will be an exhibition for the Yellowjackets but a regular season game for the Saints.
Carroll looks to rebound after a 3-2 overtime loss to the University of Lethbridge last Thursday in Helena. The Saints had chances to score but failed to get the ball in the net enough times. Head coach
Doug Mello focused on finishing over the four day break between games.
"We have about five or six chances off of corner kicks and centering passes that didn't get it in," Mello said. "We worked on our heading, finishing and our passing in our offensive third and under pressure. We need to tighten things up considerably but what better way to it than against an in-state DII opponent."
The Saints will also have the services of
Rodrigo Portillo who was out with a minor injury Thursday. He scored a pair of goals in the Saints' exhibition game against Sheridan College.
"I thought Rodrigo played tremendous against Sheridan," Mello said. "Not having his speed on the outside really hurt us against Lethbridge. It will be great to have him back but we have a few guys still out and a lot of guys that are not at 100 percent."
Mello is excited about contributions from players including freshman
Eric Hollenbaugh.
"I like the play of
Eric Hollenbaugh, he has really shown some really good things early for us," Mello said. "
Dylan Allen is in there as a marking midfielder, playing well. Once we get our midfield healthy he is going to be a lot less busy. Riley Presscott and
Kyle Thomson are giving us a lift."
The Yellowjackets fell Rocky Mountain in an exhibition match Friday. The Saints hope to repeat the performance of their Cascade Conference rivals.
The two teams take the pitch at Nelson Stadium at 3 p.m. Live video streaming will be available vie the Carroll youtube channel.
