Saints Softball Hosts EOU Friday, C of I Saturday

HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College softball hosts two conference doubleheaders against Eastern Oregon University and College of Idaho on Friday and Saturday at Centennial Park.
 
The Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon are 20-16 overall with a 9-5 record in conference play. They currently sit third in the conference standings after being swept by first place Oregon Tech last weekend.
 
The offense is led by Cheyenne Barker and Marisa Gonzalez. Barker is currently hitting .352 on the season with seven home runs and conference leading 39 RBIs. Gonzalez has put up almost identical numbers with a .347 batting average with seven home runs and 35 RBIs. Barker is tied for 17th in the country while Gonzalez is tied for 32nd in the country in RBIs.
 
The pitching staff is features two aces in Hailey Kline and Haylie Van Laethem. Kline leads the team with a 3.04 ERA while going 9-5 on the season. She has 63 strike outs, which is 3rd best in conference, in 92 innings. Van Laethem is currently 7-9 with a 3.83 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 86 innings of work.
 
The Yotes from College of Idaho are 11-14-1 on the season with a 5-9 record in conference play. They have fallen to seventh in conference as they are on a five game losing streak. 
 
The offense is headlined by Destiny Turner who is hitting .456 on the year with six home runs and 27 RBIs. Turner is second in the conference in batting average and tied for six in RBIs.
 
Ashley Pesek and Cortni Pena make up most of the pitching for the Yotes, completing 143 of the 154.1 innings on the year. Pesek is 4-6 with a 4.20 ERA on the season with 46 strikeouts but 43 walks allowed.  Pena currently is 5-8 with a 4.79 ERA while striking out 45 and walking 31 total.
 
After splitting their doubleheaders against University of British Columbia and Northwest University last weekend, the Saints are 15-15 on the season with a 4-8 record in conference.
 
The offense is anchored by Tianna Sell and Allison Bayer in the middle of the order. Sell leads the team with a .393 average and 16 RBIs while hitting two home runs. Bayer is currently hitting .333 on the year with a team leading three home runs and 12 RBIs.
 
Megan Gipe and MacKenna Landis lead the pitching staff for the Saints. Gipe is 3-6 with a team leading 3.64 ERA and 36 strike outs in 57.2 innings. Landis leads the team in wins with a 4-3 record while hosting a 4.34 ERA in 51.2 innings of work.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday against Eastern Oregon and 11 a.m. on Saturday against College of Idaho. Live stats will be available here and there will a delayed stream of the game on YouTube here.
