MISSOULA, Mont. – Carroll college softball was swept by the University of Montana in an exhibition doubleheader at the Grizzly Softball Field in Missoula.
Montana got off to an early lead with a three run first inning highlighted by a double and two singles. The Grizzles added two more runs in the next inning on a single and a fielder's choice to take a 5-0 lead after two innings.
The Saints answered back in the top of the third after
Paige Blake led off with a walk. Lead-off hitter
Jaylin Kenney followed her up with a double to right center field. Blake scored the next batter after
Justine Taylor hit a deep sacrifice fly to left field.
Montana hit a three-run home run and two doubles in the bottom half of the forth to secure the 11-1 victory in the first game.
Kenney,
Allison Bayer,
Tianna Sell,
Taylor Ostwald, and
Courtney Cloud all recorded hits in the game for the Saints while
Megan Gipe and
Ashley Davis pitched the five innings.
The Grizzles scored two quick runs in the top of the first on a two RBI single with two outs in the inning.
Tess Eaton, coming off of her no-hitter, held University of Montana in check through the first three innings, only giving up the two runs.
In the bottom of the fourth, 10 of the first 11 Griz batters reached base, resulting in an eight run innings and capping off the 10-0 victory.

Madison Soper and Bayer both singled in the game to left field.
The games do not count for the Saints, so they remain at 21-15 overall with an 8-8 record in conference play.
The next games for Carroll are Saturday at University of Great Falls for a doubleheader before returning home to face Great Falls again on Sunday. The Saints need two victories against the Argos to win the East Division in the Cascade Conference.
