MOBILE, Ala. – The sixth-ranked Carroll College men's basketball team opened the game on a 12-0 run and cruised to a 96-70 road win over the University of Mobile Wednesday evening in Mobile.
Zach Taylor scored a game-high 20 points on 6-6 shooting from the three-point line and notched eight assists.
Oliver Carr added 19 points and
Ryan Imhoff scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
The Saints hit five of their first six shots to build the 12-point lead, Carr scored 10 of the first 12 points for Carroll. The Rams cut the lead to 16-7 on a 3-pointer by BJ Fisher but the Saints answered with a 3-pointer from Taylor to build the lead back to 12 with 12:22 left in the first half, the advantage wouldn't dip below double-digits for the remainder of the game.
The Saints took a 46-24 lead into halftime and built a 32-point lead (64-32) with 14:59 remaining in the second half. Mobile cut the deficit to as low at 74-54 with 9:20 left but that is as close as they would come and Carroll cruised to the win.
"The fellas played well, shared the rock and played some stout D," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "It's nice to come to the Deep South and win two true road games. We were shown great hospitality by both schools and we're grateful for it."
The Saints were 30-52 (57.7 percent) from the field, slightly above their NAIA leading 54.7 percent. Carroll tallied 16 assists on 30 made shots and forced Mobile into 19 turnovers. Mobile gained a slight edge in rebounding 35-34.
The Rams were 25-61 (41 percent) from the field. Brandon Barnes scored a team-high 17 points and three other players scored in double figures. Ryan Pablebon had 10 rebounds.
The Saints move to 11-1 on the year while Mobile falls to 5-5.
Carroll will take a brief respite for Christmas but return to action on Dec. 29 against Arizona Christian in a neutral site game at The Master's College.
