HELENA, Mont. –
Cassidy Hashley scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Carroll College to a 77-58 win over Central Baptist (Ark.) at the PE Center Thursday.
The Saints jumped out to a 7-1 lead and led wire-to-wire en route to the 18-point win.
Hannah Dean also scored in double figures for the Saints with 15 points and
Bailey Pasta,
Brittney Johnson and
Michaela Dowdy all scored nine points in the effort.
Baylee Watson had eight points and 10 rebounds for Carroll.
The game wasn't a clean affair however as turnovers plagued the Saints. Carroll had 23 turnovers but also notched a stellar 18 assists on 26 made shots.
The Saints nearly doubled-up the Mustangs on the glass, outrebounding CBC 50-26.
Carroll was 26-59 (44.1 percent) from the field while holding the Mustangs to 19-56 (33.9 percent).
The inside game was critical for Carroll with 44 of the Saints 77 points coming from the three-player rotation of Hashley, Dean and Dowdy but turnovers still hurt the Saints.
"Obviously that's our advantage," Sayers said. "It's tough to get it to them if you're turning it over. We've got to do a better job of taking care of the basketball. We just didn't execute whether it was finally get settled in and then we call a play and then one person would be off. Or an illegal screen here or there. We're really going to have to watch the film and get better tomorrow."
