JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 25 Carroll College women's basketball team fell to No. 20 Columbia (Mo.) 53-45 in its final game of the Jackson Rotary Classic Saturday morning in Jackson, Tennessee.
The Saints held the Cougars to just 53 points on 16-58 (27.6 percent) but turned the ball over 23 times.
Cassidy Hashley again led the Saints with 14 points and eight rebounds and
Bailey Pasta had 13 points.
Three Columbia players scored in double figures led by Jordan Alford with 13 points.
Columbia got off to a blistering start, building a 17-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Saints battled back to cut the lead to 25-22 at the end of the first half.
Carroll cut the lead to 25-24 early in the third quarter but couldn't get over the hump. The Cougars rebuilt the lead to 35-31 at the end of the third quarter. The Saints again cut the lead to two points, 37-35 with 8:44 left in the game but the Cougars rattled off six-straight points and held on for the 53-45 win.
The Saints were 17-47 (36.2 percent) from the field but struggled form the three-point line, hitting just 3-18 (16.7 percent). Carroll outrebounded Columbia 34-29.
Carroll is now 6-2 on the year and next travels to Rocky Mountain the conference opener against the Bears in Billings on Thursday, Dec. 1.
