HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll college men's basketball team began the game on a 12-0 run, holding Jamestown (N.D.) scoreless for over six minutes and never trailed en route to the 89-60 win over the Jimmies Saturday night at the PE Center.
For the second-consecutive night, the Carroll defense keyed the victory. The Saints held Jamestown to 20-62 (32.8 percent) from the field, including 7-31 (22.58 percent) in the first half.
Zach Taylor lead all scorers with 21 points,
Matt Wyman had 19 points and
Ryan Imhoff contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Oliver Carr scored 17 points off the bench.
Match Burnham scored the first four points of the game which spurred the Carroll run. Jamestown never led in the game, but was as close as four points with 2:19 remaining in the first half.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half. Carroll shot 11-28 (39.3 percent) from the field and went 0-7 from behind the arc. Jamestown shot 7-31 (22.6 percent) from inside the arc and 2-12 (16.7 percent) from outside.
Carroll's defense fueled their offense as they scored 12 points on 14 forced turnovers. Carroll also dominated inside, outrebounding the Jimmies 42-25 and scoring 58 points in the paint. The game is the second of the weekend for Carroll and in both wins, the defense led the way.
"This weekend, we came out and played really good defense and had great communication between each other that really allowed us to get out in transition and be efficient on offense," Carr said. "These next few games we really need to focus on being tough and finishing strong in the first half and continue to be a good defensive team."
Kiwane Crowder scored 16 points to lead Jamestown. The Jimmies are now 2-4 on the season.
Carroll is 7-0 on the year and off to their best start since the 2005-06 team that started 8-0.
The Saints will take a break for the Thanksgiving Holiday and return to action with the start of conference play on Dec. 1, on the road at Rocky Mountain in Billings.
