HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College men's soccer team scored goals in the second minute and the 90th minute and six times in between in an 8-1 route of Multnomah University Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
Isaac Bostrom and
Henry Smaldon each scored twice to lead the Saints while
Jose Porras,
Riley Prescott,
Alessio Georgiades, and
Rodrigo Portillo each scored once in the win.
The Saints got on the board first when a foul in the box just over minute it to the game gave
Jose Porras a penalty kick. He went right post to get the goal and the 1-0 lead for Carroll.
The Lions answered right back with a goal in the third minute from Fischer Rogers but from that point on it would be all Carroll.
The Saints scored a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead into the half and added five more after the break to close out the win.
The Saints outshot Multnomah 38-6, including a 22-2 advantage in shots on goal. Multnomah goalkeeper Manny Guillermo made 14 saves on the game.
"I thought we started slow," head coach
Doug Mello said. "We knew we had a much deeper bench than they do and we are hoping to get a lot of players in this weekend and get them some time. The second half was a much better performance, we came out, got a quick goal and we didn't let up."
The win moves the Saints to 9-8 overall and 7-5 in Cascade Conference play. The win clinches a spot in the Cascade Conference Championship for Carroll for the second season in a row.
Carroll closes out the regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. with a game against Walla Walla. The Wolves are 0-11 on the year.
