Carroll Men's Soccer Hosts OIT, SOU

HELENA, Mont.- The Carroll College men's soccer team hosts Oregon Tech Thursday and Southern Oregon Friday in Cascade Conference action at Nelson Stadium.

The Saints are 7-7 on the season and 5-4 in conference play after a come from behind 3-2 win over Northwest last Saturday in Kirkland, Washington. Carroll is tied with Norwest and the University of Great Falls for sixth in the conference standings.

"We are right in the middle of the pack," head coach Doug Mello said. "We've got the head-to-head over a lot of teams which helps us along but this weekend will have a lot of impact on the conference picture."

Carroll has been inconsistent with wins over tough teams and losses to teams that are below the Saints in the standings. A lot of the inconsistency had been on the offensive end.

"Up to this point, we've done some good stuff and done some bad," Mello said. "We're confident after last week that we can come into this week and play well. We've had some trouble scoring but we got three goals last game. Our defense has been great and we want that to continue."

Isaac Bostrom leads the Saints with five goals on the season. Redshirt freshman Bernhardt Di Cino is improving as the season goes on. He has three shutouts in conference play.

Carroll opens the weekend with Oregon Tech. The Owls are 8-4-2 on the year and 5-3-1 in Cascade play but all three conference losses have come in the last three games.

Lodewijk Bloemzaad leads the Owls with five goals and four assists. Three other OIT players have five goals on the season. Dino Rozac is the starting goalkeeper for OIT.

"OIT had a tremendous start to the season, they've had some close matches that haven't gone their way in the last few weeks," Mello said. "They are reevaluating some things and we need to take advantage of that."

Southern Oregon brings an 8-2-2 record and a 6-1-2 conference record into the weekend. SOU is 4-0-2 in their last six matches with their only conference coming at the hands of Corban. Carlos Magana leads SOU with seven goals on the year and goalkeeper Jonathan Morales has a stellar goal against average of .380.

"Southern Oregon is the surprise team in the conference this season," Mello said. "Their goalkeeper is leading the conference in goal against. They've won some close game. We need to get the ball in there and get them under siege to get some goals on the board."

Both games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. It is youth soccer weekend. Any youth soccer player eighth grade and under will get free attendance into both men's and women's games when wearing their jerseys.
