KIRKLAND, Wash. – Carroll College women's soccer notched its second-consecutive draw Saturday at Northwest University in Kirkland in heavy rain in Kirkland, Washington.
"We played well, obviously the conditions weren't great but I think we did a lot good things," head coach David Throvilson said. "We had a couple of really close opportunities, we hit the post and cross bar and late in the game they had to clear one off of the line but we were just a little bit unlucky."
The two teams notched similar numbers, Carroll had 21 shots while Northwest tallied 22. Goalkeeper
Jamie Carter notched 10 saves to Northwest's five Carroll had six corner kicks to Northwest's two.
"It was a back and forth game and both teams had a lot of opportunities," Thorvilson said. "Jamie had a great game. They had some opportunities that they shot right at her but she made some tough saves, including a tough one early in overtime that saved the game for us."
Northwest appeared to score a game-winner after Carter's save but they were ruled offside and the game ended without a score.
Like yesterday, the weather had a big impact on the flow of the game.
"It was a very physical game, the conditions didn't allow for the cleanest of play," Thovilson said. "I thought we played very well today. It was there senior day and they played with a lot of emotion."
Carroll is now 6-0-3 in Cascade Conference play and 9-3-3 overall. Carroll is one of two undefeated teams in the league, the other being Southern Oregon. The two teams meet Friday at Nelson Stadium. It is the second of two matches on the weekend to close out the regular season for Carroll, after hosting Orgon Tech Thursday. The Saints are excited to be back in Helena after five-straight road games.
"We are excited to come back to Montana and close out the season at home, in front of our fans and hopefully in nicer weather," Thovilson added.
