HELENA, Mont. – Jamie Carter notched her eighth shutout on the season and
Cassidy Hammons tallied her second goal on the year to give Carroll a 1-0 win over Oregon Tech Thursday at Nelson Stadium.
Carroll outshot OIT 14-6, including 6-2 in the first half and earned seven corner kicks to the Owls' three.
After a scoreless first half, the Saints got on the board in the second with a goal from Hammons in the 58th minute.
Hammons sent the ball to
Michaela Stock in the middle of the field and worked around a defender where Stock left it for her. As another OIT defender closed on her, she buried the ball past the keeper just inside the left post from 25-yards out.
The Saints were able close out the shutout, Carter earned five saves, including three in the second half.
Carroll's focus now shifts to senior day and matchup with Cascade Conference leader Southern Oregon. At 7-0-3, the Saints have three more conference games under their belts than the Raiders who are 7-0-0 on the year. If Carroll can earn the victory, they would need SOU to drop another match or pick up two ties in their final three matches to pick up their second-consecutive regular-season conference title.
SOU has yet to give up a goal all conference season.
Carroll will need to deal with the emotion of senior day. Eight seniors, including seven starters will walk across the field for senior day presentation and play their last match on the pitch at Nelson Stadium.
"Too much emotion sometimes doesn't allow us to play as well," head coach
David Thorvilson said. "Other times you ride that emotion and try to balance it into a weekend like this. That's what you do as a coach."
The Saints and Raiders take the pitch at 1:30 p.m. Senior day ceremonies will take place at 1:15 p.m.
